Connoisseurs variety 'Seascape' Strawberry

your guide to specialist and unusual fruit cultivars
Strawberry ‘Seascape’
Belonging to the small group of Day-neutral varieties, this American raised variety can bear ripe fruits throughout the winter if kept in gentle heat in a greenhouse.
The reason for this is that it is entirely oblivious to day length, shortening days is normally the indicator for plants to slow down and stop growing, regardless of temperature. This quality makes it easy to manipulate Seascape into cropping out of season.
Seascape can also be used for outdoor cropping, and if cultivated normally a spring planting will yield in flushes from June to the frost. The flavour is not as good as with traditional varieties but more than accept able for out of season berries.
This variety should only be cropped for one season.
