Fruit garden tasks - March

JOBS TO DO NOW IN THE FRUIT GARDEN
General pruning of top fruits can STILL take place now.
All new planting projects should be completed this month to be safe so if you haven’t begun making preparations, do so now.
Cut back the tips of summer fruiting Raspberries if they are too tall. Cut down newly planted canes to near the base.
Cut back the tips of vigorously growing Blackberries if necessary.
Apply potash to gooseberrIes, red and white currants and grapes. Sulphate of ammonia can still be applied to tree fruits.
A Mulch can be applied now to guard against Spring drought and is especially valuable to Cherries.
Look out for Canker on Apples and Pears and treat if necessary.
