Introduced no more than 4 years ago, this variety warrants a write-up because it has consistently been the hardiest and most prolific Greengage tree trialled here.
Stella’s Star is a naturally compact and freely spurring tree. Even on a vigorous rootstock it should grow no more than 10-12’ and this is much less on the dwarfing Pixy stock. It would do very well as a cordon or fan.
The fruits hand in rows all along the branches and are quite small and very circular. Ripening to a deep yellow, some fruits develop a pretty pink blush. The flavour is exceedingly sweet with hints of toffee apple when fully ripe.
Stella’s Star is fully self fertile.
A highly recommended Greengage for all areas.
